Purpose: The Pomeranian Special Interest Group of the Immigrant Genealogical Society publishes the Die Pommerschen Leute a quarterly periodical highlighting research tips and information for searching for ancestors in the Baltic Duchy of Pomerania. It includes the Die Vorfahren section that includes ancestral information submitted by our subscribers to help people locate information related to their ancestors. We maintain two online indices to the items published in Die Vorfahren: a full name index and a place name index on our website as well as a blog and facebook page.

  • $ 20.00 to U.S. address by bulk mail
  • $ 23.00 to U.S. address by first class (it can be forwarded to a seasonal address).
  • US $25.00 or € 27.00to any non USA address.
  • A check from a bank in your country must be on a US dollar or Euro account.

Events:  Upcoming Events
Four general meetings per year 2nd Sunday of the month at 2pm held at our Library, 1310 W. Magnolia Blvd. Burbank, California.  Content varies with speakers or workshops, discussions, and special topics.
 
Research (or Focus) Areas:
In-person research can be done at the library during normal hours with the aid of our friendly and knowledgeable researchers. The volunteers in our Research Committee open the unique resources of the Pommern section of the Immigrant Library to genealogists across the United States and overseas via mail requests for a small fee. (see our Facebook page and our website for ongoing offers of research that can be done by mail).

Die Vorfahren has been publishing genealogical information for almost 25 years. To help people locate information related to their ancestors. We maintain two online indices to the items published in Die Vorfahren: a full name index and a place name index is available to the public on our website and they can obtain the information for a small fee.
 
 
Library (or other resources):
The Immigrant Library serves as the IGS/DPL headquarters and houses a large collection of materials related to Pommern genealogy. The collection began with the extensive personal libraries of Elisabeth Sharp and Gerda Haffner. The collection has grown over the years as society members and others contributed their materials and money to the library. The library is located at 1310-B West Magnolia Boulevard, Burbank, California. The library is open to the public. Our hours are:
  • Wed. 12 noon – 5 pm
  • 1st and 3rd Saturdays 10 a.m. – 5 pm
  • 2nd and 4th Sundays 12 noon – 5 pm
  • Closed Holidays.
  • Special arrangements are made to open for specific Groups upon request.
 
Store/Publications:
Die Pommerschen Leute – produced quarterly, as a genealogical resource for descendants of the Baltic Duchy of Pomerania. It usually contains ten pages with articles related to Pomeranian history, geography, culture and genealogical resources. It also contains Die Vorfahren, ten pages of genealogical information submitted by our subscribers Our subscribers are generally people in the United States whose ancestors immigrated from Pomerania and most information in Die Vorfahren reflects this heritage. Publication in Die Vorfahren is open to any subscriber with Pomeranian ancestry.
